It is amazing that amidst the horrors of the Holocaust, people still created art. Look below for the assignment for your class period. Follow the directions for completing your Wikispace Task.

PERIOD 1 ASSIGNMENT:
(A) Make a list of the things you think are important for maintaining one's humanity in conditions of war and imprisonment.
(B) Look through the art works at Index of Art from the Holocaust, by clicking on an artist's name. Find works of art that reflect some of the human rights or requirements you listed in (A). Click on the THUMBTACK ICON above and write a post that describes the way different artists in different places depicted these things.

PERIOD 3 ASSIGNMENT:

A) Look at the art works from Compiègne, Saint-Cyprien, Terezin and Kovno by clicking on this link Index of Holocaust Art by Location.
(B) Click on the THUMBTACK ICON above and write a post that describes the elements of the landscape and camp/ghetto environment that you expected to see and those that are unexpected or surprising.

PERIOD 5 ASSIGNMENT:

A) Choose 2-3 works from this link Art of the Holocaust Index and Search that reveal aspects of everyday life in the 2 or 3 different ghettos and camps. You could find these by typing "people" in the simple search or by choosing some of these subjects in the advanced search: "food", "work", "leisure", "exercise", "personal hygiene", "religious practice". Read about the artists and places associated with these works.
(B) Click on the THUMBTACK ICON above and write a post that anwers these questions:
  1. How do these art works relate to your previous knowledge or impressions of life in the ghettos and camps?
  2. Do they confirm your expectations?
  3. Do they reveal anything unexpected or surprising? Was life the same for everyone or was it easier for some and harder for others?
